January Neighbor Story

At the advent of the new year, Megan* has learned a lot about new beginnings.

With only the clothing on her back, Megan first came to GraceWorks in 2015. She was given clothing, food and prayer, which she later said changed her life.

Indeed it did. Eight years later, she returned to GraceWorks. She is working and recently graduated from a sober living program and has moved to an individualized recovery program. Upon graduating, she received a car from a church ministry.

“I love and live for the Lord every day,” she said. “I am so grateful for what God and GraceWorks have done in my life.”

She returned to GraceWorks recently to request temporary help. Her job income decreased her Social Security Income (SSI) funding, but then her job hours were cut.

In what she called a “full-circle moment,” she had already started volunteering at GraceWorks. Her volunteer work will help increase her SSI funding, but she needed help immediately to pay for two weeks rent. GraceWorks gave her four weeks of rent because that is the regular amount given to Neighbors in need.

“She was really grateful,” said the GraceWorker Manager who talked with Megan. “We both prayed out loud together and gave thanks to God for how good He is! What an incredible opportunity for her and GW to see the fruits of our labor.”
