January Neighbor Story

After battling one setback after another. Anne and Joe couldn’t do it anymore on their own.

Joe was downsized from his longtime job two years ago. He made do with two part-time jobs, but he had no luck finding a permanent full-time position. Anne left her job three years ago to take care of her severely ill mother. But as expenses mounted, she too found part-time work. Besides themselves, they were supporting a special needs adult son.

Then December struck. Anne’s car broke down, and they couldn’t afford repairs. Both Anne and Joe were diagnosed with Covid. No work for several days. No pay either. No luck in securing loans or credit.

They turned to GraceWorks.

It was Dec. 23, the day before GraceWorks closed for the Christmas holiday. Their landlord said he wouldn’t evict them as long as they could pay something – a something they did not have. Anne had finally landed a full-time job, but it would not start until early January, with the first paycheck after that. Joe had a job interview Dec. 27 for a job. Again, too late to make a payment.

GraceWorks staff believed the family deserved a break, and they scurried around to make a better holiday for them. The landlord was contacted, and a check was written and given to him before GraceWorks closed. In addition, a new rent payment schedule was arranged to coincide with their income.

Anne expressed their gratitude in an email to GraceWorks staff:

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for going the extra mile for us today. I have been weeping happy tears. The Lord sees what you did, and we have asked Him to heap blessings upon you! We are eternally grateful! What a wonderful job you have to be able to help people at their lowest.”

  1. For so many years Graceworks has quietly, willingly & without fanfare helped thousands of people. It is truly a God anointed ministry & everyone in Williamson county should be proud & supporting it. Prayers for your continued success helping those in need.

  2. Beautiful story. Thank you GraceWorks for being the hand and feet of Jesus.

*one minor correction. We in the special needs community would say “caring for her adult son with special needs” (using person first language).
