Welcome to the latest installment of our “Faces of Grace” series, where we introduce the passionate individuals who are at the heart of our mission at GraceWorks. In this feature, we’re excited to spotlight our new Senior Director of Development, John Thompson. With over two decades of experience in championing Christian ministries and development work, John’s journey is a testament to the power of faith in action. Join us as we delve into the motivations, memories, and musings that drive John’s commitment to GraceWorks, a place where every day is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors.
Why do you work at GraceWorks?
Over the years and miles, God continues to be faithful to us. And He reminds me that despite myself, I need to walk obediently following Him. Caring for the least of these is an expectation in the life of every believer, but somewhere along the way, I chose to overlook this command. GraceWorks is a visual reminder of the existing needs in our community and one way I can be involved in caring for our neighbors. My desire is to share the purpose of GraceWorks and to invite others into its mission.
What is your favorite moment from working at GraceWorks?
Talking with neighbors at a recent mobile food pantry who had received a trunkload of groceries and hearing of their joy and gratitude.
What is your favorite lunch meal?
Tacos
What nickname would your coworkers give you?
Just ‘John,’ I’m new here.
What is your office superpower?

What do you like to listen to while at work?
I’m often distracted by music or outside noise at work. I prefer quiet to be able to concentrate on what’s in front of me. However, during the commute I am always listening to an audiobook or podcast.
What sports teams do you root for?
Ole Miss Rebels, Tennessee Titans
What is your favorite bible verse and why?
Eccl 5:20 ” Rather than being overly concerned with growing older and regretting your lost years, God is faithful to keep your eyes focused on Him.
