Melanie’s* $210 electric bill was due, and she had only $80 to pay for it.
Her payment was not enough, and her connection was scheduled to be cut off the day she heard from a neighbor about GraceWorks.
In talking with a volunteer GraceWorker, she revealed she has custody of her granddaughter Millie, who has cerebral palsy. With recent unexpected medical expenses as well as repair costs for Millie’s wheelchair, she had come to the end of her savings.
Melanie burst into tears after being assured her bill would be taken care of and she would receive a shopping cart full of food in addition. She also learned she could receive food each month to help stretch her income.
After her visit, she sent a note to GraceWorks in gratitude:
“I would like to thank you all so very much for your help,” she wrote. “This was truly a blessing! I cannot express my gratitude enough. You have taken a big burden off me. Thank you so very much! May God bless you all! Thank you!
