CEO Letter: The Dirty Ground

I may have overcommitted. My husband convinced me that we could handle building a 40×60 ft garden and two new flower beds this year. We spent many hours digging. After an afternoon of moving dirt and tucking in bulbs, my 5-year-old daughter made a comment – “All these pretty things start in the dirty ground.” I hope she remembers this lesson forever.

The dirty ground at my house that holds hundreds of bulbs!

At GraceWorks, we are blessed to witness the beauty of transformation in our community every day. Just last week, a neighbor we served shared a beautiful testimony of transformation in action:

I am so thankful for your loving help with some financial assistance!  This has been a difficult few months and I may need a little bit more assistance, For now… I believe God is turning things into something great, He is working behind the scenes. By faith!”

I pray you feel the hope of this neighbor and have confidence that God is at work behind the scenes and underground.

If you are seeking to feel transformation yourself, I invite you to consider joining Christ-followers in Lent – an intentional season of transformation. This year, Lent begins on March 5th and culminates with the joyous celebration of Easter in April. As we fast, repent, and draw near with God the truth that many “pretty things start in the dirty ground” is understood deeply during Lent.

Thank you for creating fertile ground at GraceWorks for “pretty things” to bloom in the lives of our neighbors. We are deeply grateful for you – each of you – those who trust us to serve you, those who serve with us, and those who gift us resources to serve.  Together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate community, rooted in the love and grace of God.

May this season of Lent and Easter bring you peace, joy, and a renewed sense of purpose. Thank you for being a vital part of the GraceWorks family.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Some of my pretty paperwhite blooms that started in the dirty ground.

– Alicia, CEO
