After fleeing an abusive relationship in another state, Mary* and her two daughters were essentially homeless in Franklin. They found a local hotel, but that was an expensive option.
Mary started a new job in April and found an affordable apartment, but despite working overtime as often as she could, she did not have quite enough money to cover the deposit, rent, and utility deposits.
She came to GraceWorks on a Friday for help, and by the next Monday the finances had been arranged with her new landlord. Mary contributed what she could, GraceWorks gave $800, and Brentwood Baptist Church pitched in $500.
Knowing Mary had had to leave her previous home in a hurry, the GraceWorks staff member realized this little family needed furnishings and arranged a furniture voucher at our Thrift Store.
“Mary and her daughters came in and excitedly ran around the GraceWorks furniture store, in awe of all the options laid out before them, like kids on Christmas Day,” the staff member said.
That same day, a Food Pantry appointment unexpectedly opened, and Mary was able to take a shopping cart full of food to their new home.
From homelessness to a home with furniture and a kitchen full of food, GraceWorks was able to show Mary and her daughters the love and grace of God through food, shelter, and support.
GraceWorks has helped many young mothers fleeing intolerable living situations over the years—but only with your help. The money you give provides them a place to live, and the furniture, clothing, household goods, and appliances you donate to the Thrift Store make that place a home of their own.
