Maria found herself in a situation she had never imagined.
After 40 years in the workforce, she unexpectedly lost her job through downsizing. Maria had developed many skills in her 40 years of employment and believed she could find another position quickly. But now in her early 60s, finding another was not as simple as she had thought, and she was too young to qualify for Social Security.
She sent out resume after resume with no response. While Maria had never thought of herself as old, she began to realize prospective employers might think so and consider her not worth their time.
With her savings already dwindling, Maria came to GraceWorks for help in filling her kitchen cupboards.
She was astonished when a shopping cart full of food was wheeled out to her car.
“I’m overwhelmed,” she said. “I had no idea it would be this much. I want to come back and volunteer. It’s the first thing on my agenda when I get back on my feet.”
