Today a single grandmother stopped by our Food Pantry to ask for some help. She asked me, “What do I need to qualify for your Food Pantry? I just need some basic food items to get by this month. I don’t qualify for food stamps, but it’s still hard for me to cover everything. I wish they took my living expenses into account—my rent is so high.”
While I talked with her about our food program and The Manger, her young granddaughter found a Bible on our lobby table and told me she was interested in having one.
We have a supply of children’s storybook Bibles courtesy of one of our amazing church partners, so I happily offered her one.
When I delivered the food box to their car, her granddaughter was absolutely thrilled that it included a new storybook Bible, gift wrapped with a bright pink ribbon.
She had apparently seen it before in a store because she lit up and told me, “I wanted this one!”
Her grandmother stopped me before they left to say, “Thank you so much. This is such a blessing.”
