Things have been elevated lately. I have friends whose anxieties are higher and others whose convictions are clearer. More people seem to have the itch to do something.
I’ve even found myself itching to change, start, or get louder.
But in this season, God reminded me of his word—steadfast.
GraceWorks is beautifully steadfast. The doors at GraceWorks have remained opened for 30 years simply to welcome our neighbors during their most vulnerable moments. GraceWorks has served in storms, floods, economic downturns, pandemics, and more.
Yet, we remain. We continue to show up. And it pays off.
The Bible tells us that those who remain steadfast will be kept in perfect peace and their work for the Lord is not in vain (1 Cor. 15:58; Is. 26:3). Maybe this is what we are itching for—a world full of people in perfect peace who are not working in vain.
So, today, GraceWorks will remain steady. We will continue to love our neighbors in small, quiet ways because we’ve seen mountains move just by showing up.
Here’s one mountain that moved recently through a sequence of small, steadfast actions:
- Someone showed up by donating their work clothes at GraceWorks’ back door.
- Someone else showed up by volunteering to sort those clothes and get them ready for our Thrift Store floor.
- Another person showed up to answer GraceWorks’ phone that same day. He answered a call from a man who was homeless. He offered this man some food and clothing.
- The man ate and put on his new outfit. He could then show up for an interview. He got the job.
Small acts of steadfastness come together to make real change at GraceWorks every day.
I encourage you: How can you show up today for someone else? If you don’t have a quick answer, consider coming to GraceWorks. Give, volunteer, share our story with others. You may never see the fruit in its fullness, but I can tell you it is sweet!
Cheers,
Alicia
