Last week, one of our staff members shared this story with us:
I talked with a Neighbor today who is dealing with a major job loss. She told me that she had just gotten back on her feet financially after a difficult season of grieving and unemployment, and is suddenly left in a place where she’s worried about covering her groceries and utilities. She is frustrated to start back at square one but says, “God is continuing to humble me.”
She doesn’t have any living family members or safety net left to lean on, but she knew she could call GraceWorks. She told me, “I was doing so well and then I lost my job. I’m so embarrassed to not be able to cover my own expenses. I need you guys, and it’s hard to say that.”
We talked a while about her situation and her plans to get connected to her local church. After I encouraged her, she had some encouragement for me as well: “You don’t make me feel belittled or judged. Thank you for doing what you do, and thank you for listening. If you ever wonder if you’re making a difference, you are.”
