Description

Position Summary

The Food Acquisition Assistant is responsible for helping with the day-to-day coordination and tracking of donated food items, the coordination of assigned volunteers, solicitation of new food sources, and collaboration with the Food Distribution Manager to transfer food from the warehouse to the food pantry.

Responsibilities

• Greets and coordinates tasking of assigned volunteers who are helping with food acquisition and inventory
• Tracks, inventories and reports all inbound food items (purchased and donated)
• Coordinates all commercial donations as well as all gleaning volunteers
• Coordinates with outside entities (churches, businesses, schools) to sponsor food drives
• Rotates and date checks stock as needed
• Coordinates purging or partner-agency distribution of overstock or out-of-date inventory
• Maintains appropriate inventory levels of food and other items for daily distribution of carts as well as weekly distribution of fuel bags. Coordinates additional donations or purchases to supplement when levels of particular items become low
• Determine when and if food should be discarded from storage in the warehouse
• Prepares appropriate weekly, monthly and annual reports for internal and external entities
• As a part of food pantry team, collaborate with Food Distribution manager to suggest long-term inventory changes, storage, etc.
• Written communication with volunteers on a regular basis to show appreciation and to alert them to new information and procedures.
• Train and encourage volunteers through written communication and regular meetings
• Able to react to change productively and handle all other duties/essential tasks as assigned.

Education

Preferred Bachelor’s Degree and required Highschool Diploma.

Work Environment

The position is in a retail and warehouse setting that involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. May encounter hot working conditions, based on the season.
